Takko, also known as Paco, came to us after having been found in San Pedro area, without a microchip, collar or anything.
Takko, also known as Paco, came to us after having been found in San Pedro area, without a microchip, collar or anything. He was skinny, tired and dusty, and he had a wound on his eye. We don't know where he is coming from, but he did come from somewhere and someone, a soul that a human no longer wanted. Well, we love Takko very much! With his eye-catching, beautiful dark grey fur, that you do not see very often on dogs, his sturdy body and long legs ready for adventure, he brings beauty outside and inside. When he first arrived, he was so quiet and invisible, like he wanted to blend in with the walls, and not even to be noticed…. But once he started to realise, that people love him, take care of him, and that the all day waiting every day at least bring some joy by running in the dog park, with happy humans, then he started to come out of his shell, and show us gis goofy, cuddly, playful self! He is an incredibly joyful boy who absolutely loves spending time with our volunteers and soaking up all the attention.
When he first went out, he jumped a lot out of pure excitement, but we could easily redirect this behavior just by talking to him with a calm and soft voice, and setting clear boundaries. Takko has a truly beautiful trait, as he perfectly reads and mirrors the energy of his human - for that reason, Takko is looking for a confident, but loving and kind person, a human who is not afraid of a dog loving physical contact, and a bit of wrestling play. This makes him a fantastic partner for fair and cooperative training. He is extremely attentive and always eager to please his people. In best case scenario, his future home would have a softer energy person, for all the love and care, and a sturdier energy person, for the wrestling and play for his energy and joy of life.
He drives well in the car and remains calm during travel. Getting in the car is motivated by going to nice places and perhaps a treat waiting in the car for him. Meeting humans on the walks does not phase him, he continues the walk with his humans, and other dogs do not bother him as long as they are not threatening him, in which case he becomes more interested and tries to go towards the threatening or disturbing dog. He would love to live in a quieter, nature neighborhood to enjoy walks in the forest and nature, rather than a noisy, busy, stressy city environment.
Even though Takko is a strong boy, he walks very well on the leash, and takes guidance very well. In the beginning of the walk, at the shelter, he is a bit of a clown, trying to take the collar or harness from you, but when you then clearly ask him to “Sit” or “Stay”, then he sits down and allows himself to be prepared for the walk calmly. He in general sits very nicely when asked, and patiently waits for his snacks. Since he is food-motivated, it is really pleasant and easy to work with him. Sometimes when you praise him for doing something very well, he gets a bit happy, and then might do an occasional jump up, so his human really shouldn’t be a person who is secretly afraid of dogs.
Even though he is waiting in a shelter right now, he remains such a happy, positive and loving boy… Hopefully we will find his home, before this spark fades away into the years of waiting. His shoulder height is 56cm, and even though he is quite a proper size boy, he is not overwhelming at all.
