Xico is an eye-catching Border Collie boy, with beautiful fur and he is full of character! Like border collies are, Xico is super smart and learns incredibly fast. He quickly establishes a communication and connection with the humans he likes, and he loves the attention and care from his chosen humans. Very sadly, Xico has already been abandoned twice in his life, the latest time after being adopted together with Kayla, and then he was left homeless again, since his human left the country and did not take his dogs with him.
Now Xico is suffering in the shelter, which is especially hard for a very social, active working breed like a Border Collie, and based on a trainers evaluation, the frustration from the lack of breed-specific physical and mental engagement is driving him to an undesired behavioural issue, which is lunging towards some people, for no identifiable reason in terms of gender of the person, or activity of the person. So this is something that Xico will need help with from his forever human, and due to his past experienced of being abandoned several times, our adoptions teams this time will have to make extra sure that Xico will now find a very suitable home, a very suitable living enviornment, and a very dedicated human.
Xico has been living together with young females, and could very well join a home with already a social female present, potentially also males, which we would test out case by case. Most important is the possibility for physical and mental training and high levels of activity - Xico is not a couch potato.
Xico travels very well in the car, he of course loves to play catch&bring like all collies, and he loves to do tricks, obedience & agility training. When he likes a human, he is very loving, very physical, and kissing you all over. At the same time, Xico is looking for a human who will advocate his right for personal space, and who is able to read his body language when he says he does not wish to be approached by this human, by this stranger.
He has lived in a home, so home life is familiar for him. He walks well on the leash and loves to play on the beach.
Ideally, Xico is looking for a home on the countryside, with possibilities to work with kettle if he deems suitable for livestock work, or at least plenty of space to run and exercise. At the moment he would not be suitable for a life in the city, due to the current frustrations and reactions towards some humans. A rehoming to a city environment would only be considerable when a very strong collaboration with a knowledgable dog trainer is established from the very beginning.
Even though he is so loving with his humans, Xico will not be rehomed to families with small children, due to breed specific herding instincts.
His shoulder height is approximately 50cm, he is quite a small collie.
